This has been going around a lot lately: Parents who refuse Vitamin K shots for their newborns. Obviously, the CDC does not recommend skipping this shot – which prevents the baby from bleeding to death before their little bodies have generated enough coagulants in their blood.

As an expectant father, I cannot understand the motivations of these parents. What would cause a parent to shun doctor-recommended treatment to prevent very real danger in favor of an imagined risk with no demonstrated danger what-so-ever? They must be making these decisions because they care deeply about their child’s health, maybe they’re just looking for help in all the wrong places.

For the record, blogs are the wrong places. Don’t base your health information on uninformed gossip.
