I’ve heard this argument from a lot of family and friends, who accept that climate change is happening but don’t care. Or don’t think we should do anything about it. Extinctions have happened dozens of times and life goes on.

At least they’re not denying climate science. But they see environmentalists and “save the world” arguments as ridiculous.

I usually quote Bill Nye for my own response, complete with mannerisms: “The Earth is going to be fine. The Earth is going to be here no matter what we do. No, I want to save the Earth FOR ME! The human! I mean look, some of my best friends are human.”

Here is the second half of his TAM2014 talk which focuses on climate change, (the first half discusses his debate with Ken Ham which I posted a few days ago).

BLAKE
Hey! I read your article about global warming.
ROB
Thanks! What did you think?

BLAKE
I know that it's happening, but why worry about it? There are lots of other things that can kill us first.

ROB
Would you let your kids smoke?
BLAKE
Well, no. I don't want them to get cancer.
