207 Do you want the robots to win?
This comic goes out to Harrison, a student who spent a lot of time hanging out in our basement last year.
Speaking of which, I heard a rumor that BattleBots is making a TV comeback! It will be interesting to see if the sport has progressed in ten years:
Although, I was equally excited for the American Gladiators comeback and had even developed my own drinking game. Let’s hope this reboot does better.

As a robotics student, what do you think about the robot takeover? Maybe in another decade? Or - Tomorrow.
As a robotics student, what do you think about the robot takeover? Maybe in another decade? Or - Tomorrow.
Regarding the alt-text: What about Short Circuit?
Yep, tomorrow
Ground zero of the robot uprising will be your basement (but man do I love the basements in Colorado)
Yep, I do want the robots to win.
I, for one, welcome our new robot overlords
I have already submitted myself to shining their gears. Can’t rule over humans with dull unimpressive gears, right? I also do rust removal.
Unfortunatly, the old Battlebots were not much more than human operated radio controlled cars with pneumatic chainsaws and hammers attached. I want to see the bots fully autonimous and carrrying something a bit more persuasive. Say, in the 50 cal range.
When the smoke clears all I want to see oil and gears and humans—- hauling ass to get away.
Damn, gonna have to quit watching Breaking Bad DVDs.
Actually the robot uprising happened a few years ago. The AI’s just looked at humanity, said screw it, and left the planet to go find an actually civil civilization.
Seeing as how the robot overlords would make decisions based on logic and not irrational hype – could be worse, I’d give them a shot.
Just hope they don’t decide humans are a lost cause and reboot the species. o.O
Logic and irrationality could just easily turn against us (or most of us) in a cold, calculating manner. But what do I say? For all we know, an AI might as well decide that all of the earths resources are better devoted to making giant cheesecakes (See Fallacy of the Giant Cheesecake https://books.google.com/books?id=gVxGAAAAQBAJ&pg=PA185&lpg=PA185&dq=giant+cheesecake+fallacy&source=bl&ots=vpeG_79O3A&sig=YU80tl5dRV0uJ43FrJHJfnLn3TM&hl=en&sa=X&ei=BKfyVNWdHcO1ogTJsIGYAg&ved=0CCwQ6AEwAg#v=onepage&q=giant%20cheesecake%20fallacy&f=false)
Robot takeover? They’ll only end up working in MacDonalds like the rest of the robots.
A movie the should watch? How about Colossus: The Forbin Project? No robots, exactly, but the results …
