I began writing what would become Carbon Dating four years ago. The first working title was “Sex and Dinosaurs” until a google search revealed some very interesting image results. Then it became “Empirically Single” about Rob the hapless bachelor, a reflection of my own romantic misadventures. After drawing fifteen strips or so I scrapped all the character designs and started over, knowing my time would be a premium I streamlined the art. The comic you see here is the original design for Rob, not quite the fully-fledged nerd you now know and love.

Don’t forget that you can always reach me directly on Twitter, and chat with other Carbon Dating readers on Facebook. Lastly, if you supported the Kickstarter all your merch is in the mail except for personalized strips and sketches – we will get those out by New Year’s!

ROB
You know it's ridiculous, I'm almost a PhD but I've never taken time to figure out how a car engine works.

Later:
MECHANIC
What seems to be the problem today?
ROB
Well... My car won't go.

MECHANIC
Ok, what happened?
ROB
You see it was going, then it stopped going.
